Socialist theory and political development
The theoretical collection brings together historical Marxist works and contemporary Chinese political documents. Marx and Engels’ account of social relations and Lenin’s examination of the state provide historical foundations. Chinese party documents explain the political language, institutions and priorities of contemporary socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is a central contemporary reference in the League’s outlook. Its study connects the broad direction of socialist development with governance, economic organisation, social provision, ecology and international affairs.

Chinese modernisation
Modernisation concerns the transformation of productive capacity and social life. In the Chinese political account, it links economic development with social progress, cultural life, ecological responsibility and peaceful international relations.
The scale of China’s population and territory makes coordination across sectors and regions a central question. Industry, infrastructure, public services and scientific development depend on different institutions, but their effects meet in the conditions of social development.
The modernisation dossier examines these connections and the relationship between long-term direction and concrete policy. The accompanying briefing develops the economic, social and institutional dimensions in detail.
Economy, planning and production
China’s development raises questions about the organisation of investment, industry, infrastructure and the use of scientific knowledge. Planning connects long-term priorities with sectoral work, public resources and implementation. Production and national-accounting statistics provide evidence about the scale and composition of economic activity.
The economy dossier examines these institutions and measures together. It also connects productive development with public provision, territorial development and the conditions for a continuing transition in the economy.
Public services and social development
Health, education, social protection and the development of social provision connect economic resources with the conditions of everyday life. Chinese policy documents address these fields through national objectives, institutions and measures for implementation.
The collection includes official accounts of poverty alleviation and women’s development, the Healthy China planning announcement and statistical material. These sources allow the discussion to move between the organisation of a policy, the population it concerns and the forms of provision involved.

Ecology, energy and science
Ecological development involves the relationship between economic activity and the natural conditions on which it depends. Energy systems are a practical part of that relationship: production, networks, storage, consumption and efficiency each affect the course of transition.
Science and research contribute to productive and technological capacity. Their organisation involves institutions, skills, funding and the connection between basic research and practical application. The dossier considers these fields together with China’s official green-development and energy-transition accounts.

Europe and China
Europe–China relations connect the League’s two principal geographical fields of study. EU-level diplomacy and agreements are distinct from the bilateral relations of individual European states, including those outside the Union.
Climate cooperation and Swiss–Chinese economic relations provide concrete documentary examples. The collection identifies the participants, the subject of cooperation and the stage reached by an agreement or diplomatic statement.

Publications and original documents
The League’s briefings develop the principal questions in complete articles. The Reference Library identifies original Chinese reports, white papers and statistical releases alongside historical theoretical works and international material.
The source guide and glossary provide the bibliographic and conceptual support for reading across the collection. Editorial questions can be raised through Corrections or the public contact directory.
